The night was mild, the full moon watchful and bright in its nest of twinkling stars. And under the cool light, a stallion made his way over to a young mare, steps high and tail a flying banner, as had been the way since ancient times. The mare, her striped russet coat beginning to fade into the darkness, was grazing alone, and at the stallion's approach raised her head, pale mane and tail like foam on a waterfall. The two bent their heads to each other as they came together, breathing a soft greeting. The mare nodded.
